What do you believe about the state of the environment?

This is in Response to the Questions and Reflections for April 26, 2007:
Frankly, we have made a mess.
The country that succeeds the greatest, starting now, will be the one that figure out that everything we need is here, we just too myopic to see it. (and it does not involve fossils fuels, going down the same paths, or using and abusing the earth).
This country MUST BE the one to "discover" and "employ" new, sustainable, non polluting energy sources. It is the only way to ensure future generations have an earth.
I do have an honest question. How does a Christian reconcile the second coming of Christ and saving the earth? Why should they care about what happens to the earth??

Your question is one I have also pondered many a time…. Though we must be careful not to lump all Christians together, I do know that certain of my more :fundamentalist” acquaintances see the environmental crisis as a good sign of the “rapture”. YIKES! To these individuals, it is “god's way” and, as you surmise, they don't feel inclined to do anything.
Here is a link to an interesting (albeit frightening) article:

I agree, wholeheartedly, that we must come together to find and employ sustainable solutions. It is our obligation; I think we can do it!!
Here is another link, Jenna. This one is way more hopeful (yeah!). The Catholic Church is apparently adopting a stance that is quite supportive of environmental endeavours.
